(1) 10,000 psi concrete. PSI stands for pounds-per-square-inch. Most concrete is 6,000 psi. But for Trump Chicago, a special concrete was formulated at 10,000 PSI. Steel reinforced concrete. It's the most fire resistant building in the world. And at that time, it was the tallest concrete building ever built. (2) The entire building mass is lifted 40' feet off the ground to allow the site to terrace down and open into the river walk. (3) Location next to the river allows for (a) incredible views and (b) a design advantage for cooling the building. Heat from the building is ejected into the river via a condenser water pump, so there was no need for a cooling tower or piping.  Basically, it eliminated any extra piping and the energy consumed to pump the condensed water from the chiller to the roof: this allowed for the design of a more architecturally refined building. (4) Designed by world-renowned architect Adrian Smith from Skidmore, Owings & Merrill who also designed the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. (but Burj Khalifa is not all-concrete) (5) Prime location: Trump Tower Chicago is nestled between the Wrigley Building and the IBM building which was designed by Mies van der Rohe. Thus, this River North location will without doubt be classified a historical landmark one day.
